Every year during Duke’s Spring Break, Dive Into Durham offers students an immersive direct-service experience that introduces them to the issues of hunger and homelessness in Durham. Participants volunteer 12 to 16 hours with local non-profits — such as Urban Ministries of Durham and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina — that work to address food and housing insecurities. Students participate in reflective dialogues and explore Durham’s culture and history.
There is no cost to participate in Dive Into Durham. For students who live on campus, the Duke residence halls remain open during Spring Break. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome, and enrollment is limited to 10 students.
Dive Into Durham 2017 will run from March 13-17, 2017.
