Accessible Healthcare: School Clinics
Through the Neighborhood Partnership, children at two partnership elementary schools and two other Durham public schools can get both an education and health care at school. Teachers support the clinics since healthy kids are able to stay in school
Low-income children in 12 Durham public schools (including three partner schools) receive free dental care via the Tooth Ferry dental van, a community health initiative co-sponsored by Duke Health System, Durham County Health Department and Durham Public Schools . In 2003, the grant concluded and Duke donated the van to enable the county to continue the program.
