Neighborhood Revitalization: Trinity Heights Homesites

The historic six-block area just north of Duke's East Campus is a more stable community thanks to teamwork between Duke and neighborhood residents. In the early 1980s, Duke was a significant owner of neighborhood rental homes, as well as undeveloped property. In response to community requests, Duke sold the rental houses to homeowners. By 2002, Duke had 40 stand-alone houses and townhomes constructed on the vacant land, and these can only be owned by Duke employees. The architecture matches the historic style of the neighborhood. The city's property tax revenues also increased more than $100,000 a year.
