Partner Neighborhoods: Trinity Park
Trinity Park is one of the oldest intact neighborhoods in the Triangle region. The 40-square-block community just east of Duke’s East Campus contains mostly single-family houses, many owned and occupied by university faculty and staff. Duke students also live in rental properties in the neighborhood.
Concerned by increasing numbers of absentee landlords in the late 1960s and mid-`70s, residents successfully lobbied the city to rezone their neighborhood for predominantly single-family residences. Their goal was to create a healthy environment that would attract families and encourage homeowners to invest in their property.
Today, the Trinity Park Neighborhood Association continues its active role in protecting and improving the neighborhood. The neighborhood sponsors a biennial house tour, lobbies for city services such as traffic calming and works to improve communication with the off-campus student population, among many activities.
Partner school Watts Montessori Elementary is in Trinity Park, and Neighborhood Partnership efforts to extend Duke Police patrols beyond campus also benefit the neighborhood.
