News: Honors Awards

2008 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
For the second consecutive year, Duke University has made the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, given to universities that make distinctive contributions to service in their communities.
2007 Duke Teamwork Award
Two members of Duke's Office of Community Affairs were part of a team honored with a Duke University Blue Ribbon Award. Director of Community Engagement Sam Miglarese and former Director of Special Projects Susan Kauffman were members of the DukeEngage team that received the award.
2007 Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Award
Duke's Office of Institutional Equity honored Barbara Jentleson, Liz Henderson, Denice Johnson, and Sarah Anderson for their commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion through their work in the area of youth development and enrichment. Specific DDNP programs recognized by this award are Project H.O.P.E., Project Child, America Reads and America Counts, and Partners for Success

Business Partnership Award
This honor from North Carolina
Governor Mike Easley recognizes outstanding sustained business
and business alliance partnerships that have significantly improved
student achievement. The Neighborhood Partnership won with Durham
Public Schools.

The Samuel DuBois Cook
Society at Duke honored former President Nan Keohane and Senior
Vice President John Burness for their work with communities near
the Duke campus.
2004 Closing the Gap Award presented by North Carolina Central University Chancellor James H. Ammons to former Duke President Nan Keohane, Durham Public Schools Superintendent Ann Denlinger and NCCU Senior Fellow Tyrone Baines.

Partnership Award
The award honored revitalization
efforts in the Walltown neighborhood.

Given for the Partners for Youth year-round mentoring and internship
program for West End at-risk teens.
