Partners: Durham Faith-Based Organizations
Walltown Neighborhood Ministries
This group of representatives from five churches and the Duke Divinity School has focused on improving life in the Walltown neighborhood through a series of religious and social programs.
The organization's board
of directors embarked in August 2004 on a reorganization phase.
A steering committee has been established to assure the needs
of the community are being met.
The churches are:
- Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian Church
- Northside Baptist Church
- St. James Baptist Church
- St. John's Missionary Baptist Church
- Watts Street Baptist Church
First Calvary Baptist Church
Calvary Ministries of the Westend Community, Inc. owns the Community Family Life and Recreation Center at Lyon Park which is managed by Durham Parks and Recreation. The Community Center houses programs such as GED preparation, tutoring, child development services, recreation, senior daycare, and summer and after-school youth enrichment opportunities.
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
Immaculate Conception works to mentor at-risk Hispanic schoolchildren through Project Child throughout the partnership neighborhoods.
