Partners: Non-Profits
The Duke Endowment
The Endowment's grants over the past six years to support the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership totaled more than $5 million by 2007.
"The progress of the Duke-Durham effort is remarkable," said Elizabeth H. Locke, president of the Charlotte-based foundation. "But now is not the time to decrease dollars. Building trust is a long, slow process, but it has begun to take root. We want to see those roots grow stronger."
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation
The Kellogg Foundation gave North Carolina Central University and Duke $4.5 million in grants to assist low-income children in their home city of Durham. Duke is using its half to support Project H.O.P.E., after-school and summer programming in Neighborhood Partnership community centers.
Self-Help Community Development Corporation
This leading nonprofit lender's goal is to help North Carolinians build wealth. Self-Help uses Affordable Housing Loan Fund money provided by Duke to build and renovate affordable homes in the partnership neighborhoods.
Triangle-Duke United Way
A Duke and Triangle United Way Partnership has made it possible to distribute more than $81,500 annually to 20 local community service groups that serve neighborhoods near campus.
