Ben Mixon, president of Mixon Construction Company Inc., has been a vital part of fundraising for Duke’s community outreach for many years. His experience was a great help to Mary Lou Rollins when she took over the Duke-Durham Campaign last year.
“It was so wonderful to have veteran volunteer fundraisers like Ben on board,” Rollins said. “Their experience made planning the campaign such a pleasure.
Sam Miglarese, Duke University’s Director of Community Engagement and former Campaign Director, agreed that Mixon adds something special to the team.
“He consistently went above and beyond expectations, by making numerous calls that harvested new understandings of Duke’s community involvement and new monies to support the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership.”
Mixon, however, is humble about his years of volunteer work.
“With the Duke-Durham Campaign, it is so easy to make people realize that they are just giving back a little bit to their community.”
Mixon explained the advantages of giving to the Duke-Durham Campaign.
“Every single dollar goes to helping out those neighborhoods around Duke; in addition to that, Duke puts forward an enormous amount of time and additional dollars to go with money and gifts-in-kind that are donated,” he said. “If you give a dollar, you know it is all going to help.”
