Housing Affordability
The West End Community Foundation partnered with Duke's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to share the story of the Community Family Life and Recreation Center at Lyon Park - part of a historically Black Durham neighborhood.

Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) staff began meeting with residents living near Lakeview Park. They were invited by the neighborhood and the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership to help re-vision the park. Over the course of two years they developed a master plan for the park with the growing Braggtown Community Association.
Formed as the pandemic ramped up earlier this year, LATIN-19 built connections, spread information and looks ahead with hope.
Through a joint partnership with DHIC and partners, Self-Help, the City of Durham and AJ Fletcher Foundation, Duke's 2.5M contribution helped create 82 new affordable units.
With a bright smile and an infectious laugh, Joann Carpenter radiates positive energy. At her home dedication ceremony, Habitat for Humanity staff commented on her spirit as Carpenter took the keys and moved in with her family as a new homeowner.
