Program Details

Duke Homebuyers Club was launched in the Fall of 2013 to offer differentiated support for Duke employees, including monthly information sessions, one-on-one counseling, monthly informal conversations, home buying resources, and a workbook.

Sessions focus on topics such as the home purchasing process, budgeting, saving and building or repairing credit, and working with realtors, lenders, home inspectors, and contractors. Community partners, such as the Community Empowerment Fund and Reinvestment Partners, are invited to make presentations to the group and work with members one-on-one.

Participants have access to an online HUD-certified homebuyer education course, which can support first-time home buyers in qualifying for various Below Market Rate (BMR), Below Market Program (BMP), and Down Payment Assistance (DPA) homebuyer programs and or loans.

In 2024, three Duke Homebuyers Club members bought homes, and six others were pre-qualified as a result of their participation in the program. Determined home buyers apply their knowledge and hone their savings and financial skills through attending 331 hours of meetings and completing over 86 hours of one-on-one counseling sessions.

Session topics have included:

  • Hopes & Dreams
  • Student Loans
  • Budgeting 101
  • Qualifying for a Mortgage
  • Visioning Boards
  • Chat with a Realtor
  • Duke HR Packages
  • Learn From an Inspector
