Senior Director for Community-Engaged Scholarship
Carrissa Dixon is the Senior Director of the Duke Center for Community-Engaged Scholarship. In this role, she works to position the Center as a national model by aligning scholarly rigor with real-world outcomes, ensuring that every initiative delivers meaningful community benefit and broad-based participation.
She brings extensive experience in research operations, digital health innovation, and building cross-sector partnerships. At Duke, she previously managed a portfolio of clinical research technology initiatives within the Duke School of Medicine and Duke Health Technology Solutions. She also supported health research, data integration, and community-engaged scholarship through the Duke Office of Clinical Research and the Duke Office of Research Initiatives.
Before joining Duke, Carrissa directed multi-site community-based research programs at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. She led national community engagement and recruitment efforts for the National Institutes of Health and supported local community engagement initiatives through the Durham Public Education Network.
A Durham native and resident known for building trust and driving innovation, Carrissa champions collaborative practices and mentorship to empower teams and sustain long-term engagement efforts.
She holds an MS in Health Communication from Boston University and a BS in Computer Science from Winston-Salem State University.
