Writer

Katy Koop is the writer for the Operations, Research and Advancement team at Duke Community Affairs. She is an experienced technical communicator, writer and creative producer with over a decade of storytelling experience with arts-focused non-profit organizations, marketing firms, tech companies, and online publications. She has also worked with various theatre organizations in the NC Triangle in multiple capacities, including Justice Theatre Project, Bulldog Ensemble Theatre, Women’s Theatre Festival, and Burning Coal Theatre. Her plays have been produced across multiple states including, North Carolina, New York, Texas and Washington. As a freelance essayist and theatre critic, her work has been published in INDY Week, Femsplain, Hello Giggles and Electric Literature. 
 
Prior to joining DCA, Katy was a live talks producer with Being Patient, an online publication and community with a patient-first perspective on neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, where she produced live social media interviews with researchers and advocates about navigating diagnosis and treatment. Katy also owned the marketing around these talks, managing video production and writing journalistic pieces about the interviews. She also freelanced in the social media and marketing space with local organizations like Vaulted and Artist’s Soapbox. 
 
Katy holds an M.S. in Technical Communication from North Carolina State University and a B.A. in both Theatre and English from Meredith College. She is a lifelong North Carolinian, and lives in Raleigh, NC with her family.
