Associate Vice-President for Duke Well-Being Community and Leadership Programs

As Associate Vice-President for Duke Well-Being Community and Leadership Programs, Dr. Soriano leads a multidisciplinary team in innovation aimed at addressing gaps in our healthcare delivery structures through whole health and well-being interventions that advance the health of our communities. Dr. Soriano is also the Director of the Duke Leadership Program in Whole Health & Well-Being. Dr. Soriano is passionate about heart-based leadership development toward the re-imagining of foundational health-related paradigms. She has a special interest in community health, emotional health and well-being, autonomic self-regulation and wellness-based group medical visits as critical aspects of healthcare redesign. Her team is spearheading innovation in food sovereignty and maternal health including celebratory teaching kitchen experiences, positive self-concept transformation among youth through an intensive 9-month program providing participants with a certificate in health and well-being, a certificate in leadership for the social good, and opportunities for mentorship and community involvement. Other initiatives in development include the use of breath and other forms of biofeedback to support autonomic self-regulation, including in patients who are recovering from gun violence, and innovative whole health and well-being group programs. Dr. Soriano co-leads Duke Health’s partnership with the Healthy US Collaborative’s TakeCare project, which uses inspirational films and peer-to-peer group experiences to support sustained healthy behavior change. She is the former Director for Group Visits and Wellness-Based Healthcare Transformation at Boston Medical Center’s Program for Integrative Medicine and Healthcare Disparities, and former Medical Director for the Tanya I Edwards Center for Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine at Cleveland Clinic.
