Congratulations to the 55 participants and winners of the Regional Spelling Bee. Duke hosted the bee at Riverside High School on Saturday, March 7.
The winner was Jason Sorin, 14, an eigth grader at Triangle Day School. The winning word was “Nasturtium.” Jason has 40,000 words under his belt. “My goal this year is to make the evening finals on ESPN-Top15,” Jason said. This would have been Jason’s fourth trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC. However, Scripps cancelled the national competition in DC due to COVID-19 and hopes to reschedule to a later date.
In the regional bee was a four-way tie for runner up position.
