With funding from the Office of Durham and Community Affairs, Lakewood Montessori Middle School and Rogers-Herr Middle School launched initiatives that built on the work of the Enlaces program, which was run by the Office of Durham Affairs and supported Latinx middle school students and parents.
Lakewood Montessori runs an afterschool club. The Latinx Student Alliance prepares Latinx students academically for a rigorous high school and college experience through counseling, homework/project support, and experiential learning. Through the club, students, parents and school staff build a community of support that extends throughout students’ middle and high school careers.
At Rogers-Herr Middle School, five faculty and administrators form the Enlaces 2.0 core team. Through a tiered approach, they provide academic and social support to Latinx students. The Enlaces 2.0 core team engages students and parents through in-school and afterschool clubs, intersession camps, and special projects.
