Every year, the Duke Habitat for Humanity campus chapter raises the funds and coordinates the volunteers needed to build one house, helping a local family realize its dream of homeownership. This year’s house belongs to the Thuku-Kabata family, and a couple dozen friends and neighbors turned out on Saturday to help them celebrate.
Guests from Duke and Habitat for Humanity of Durham shared remarks before Rev. Luke Powery, Dean of Duke Chapel, blessed the home.
The Duke Habitat chapter is able to build one house per year with financial support from the Office of Durham and Regional Affairs, which provides a matching grant toward the chapter’s annual fundraising goal of $50,000.
