In 2023, Duke invested over $10 million in local nonprofits, including partnerships, personnel capacity, scholarships, service, and philanthropy. Duke Community Affairs collaborates with local organizations and citizens to understand the priorities Duke is asked to participate in. Duke facilitates connecting with local nonprofits for meaningful service opportunities. Every fall, Duke Community Affairs hosts a Volunteer Fair to help Duke employees and students can meet 50+ local organizations sharing service opportunities. We also host an online platform where you can go to find ongoing volunteer opportunities, sign up for large service events, and receive updates customized to your profile.

The Duke Center for Community Engagement is an interdisciplinary hub facilitating collaborative scholarship between community partners and Duke faculty, staff, and students, to address pressing societal challenges. The Center connects community organizations with students and researchers to explore difficult questions, analyze data, and enhance their impactful work.

Doing Good is Duke's annual employee giving campaign, encouraging Duke University and Duke Health System employees to support communities through monetary and time donations to schools, nonprofits, and/or to the United Way of the Greater Triangle. Doing Good grants are aligned with the five community-informed focus areas in the Strategic Community Impact Plan: Community and Nonprofit Capacity, Economic Mobility, Education, Health, or Housing and Neighborhoods.
