Faith Community Initiative

The Duke Office of Community Health has engaged a diverse group of faith base leaders in discussions about the importance of integrating health, wellness and spirituality. In the fall of 2011, the Faith Leadership  Initiative was established to foster continued dialogue between Duke Health and Durham faith leaders to improve the health of our community.

Goals of the initiative are to:

  • Promote the role of faith organizations as major partners in the health care continuum
  • Support health and wellness initiatives within the faith community, including programs for leaders and congregants
  • Develop a coordinated model for engaging faith organizations, integrating key resources, and improving linkages to the health system.

In partnership with the community faith leaders, the Office of Community Health coordinates quarterly training sessions. These sessions include information from Duke Pastoral Services, topics of interest identified by our faith leaders, rand key issues facing the community.
