South Ellerbe Creek Greenway Project

Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association collaborated with Trinity Park and the NCCU History Department to complete a South Ellerbe Creek Greenway Project. Together they completed five volunteer ecological restoration days to remove invasive species to promote trail user safety and native plant restoration.

To enhance the trail visitor experience and center the African American heritage of the area, volunteers contributed stories and photos to create two trail signs that feature stories of African American residents of the watershed. Across these two components, 112 volunteers contributed 275 hours of volunteer time. The South Ellerbe Creek Greenway is used by Durham neighbors and visitors alike, it serves approximately 100-250 families daily.
