College and Career Readiness

There are many obstacles that students face as they transition from high school to pursue college or enter the workforce. We are committed to enhancing college access and career readiness for all students. Programs such as College Advising Corps, School Days, and Americorps VISTA work directly with students in local communities to expand their knowledge of educational and career opportunities. Whether students are experiencing a college visit, participating in an educational leadership program, or directly meeting with a college adviser, our staff works to provide them with the skills and credentials necessary to reach their goals.

College Advising Corps

The College Advising Corps (CAC) at Duke works to increase the number of low-income, first generation college and underrepresented high school students who enter and complete higher education. Duke currently employs 22 full-time college advisers to serve NC high schools.

MaryAnn Black Summer Internship Program

DUHS is collaborating with Made in Durham and Durham Youth/Work for an education-to-career virtual internship program for students attending high schools in Durham County. This paid internship experience will help prepare students to meet the workforce needs of our community.
