Support for local schools is a natural part of Duke’s mission as an educational institution. We believe Duke’s engagement with public schools not only enhances the education of local youth; it also enriches the lives of Duke students, faculty, and staff. We celebrate the ingenuity of students through initiatives like the John Hope Franklin Young Scholars; advance the professional development and community connection through collaborations with the Durham Public Schools; and respond to schools’ priorities through a range of programs that address kindergarten readiness, early literacy, academic support, and Latino student engagement.

Leap2School

Leap2School (L2S) is a literacy program created to support pre-K curriculum in partnership with pre-K teachers and programs. Tutors support partners sites to provide individual and small group support using learn by play activities and reading.

AmeriCorps VISTA

Founded in 1964, AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program that lets citizens make a full-time, one-year commitment to fighting poverty by developing sustainable programs in local non-profit organizations.

PepsiCo Educational Technology

A PepsiCo endowment funds instructional technology innovation, offers curriculum-related materials to support their work, and increases the information literacy of Durham Public Schools students.
