The university’s formal engagement with Durham neighborhoods began in 1996 with the creation of the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership (DDNP). The work of the DDNP is driven by community voices, and the DDNP acts as a partner and advocate in achieving community goals.
The DDNP serves the 12 neighborhoods surrounding Duke’s campus with a focus on affordable home ownership, educational achievement, youth outreach, neighborhood safety, and quality health care. Our partnerships with these communities remains strong, even as our work has expanded to other Durham neighborhoods on the downtown periphery.
